Problems on the Home Front
The reason I was in Annapolis today was to attend a portion of the State Young Republicans Convention. Which was fine. Of course, there were three things that I found somewhat disturbing about the proceedings:
- At the luncheon that was originally supposed to be addressed by John Leopold (naturally, Leopold didn't keep his word. I'm stunned), a senior Leopold staffer speaking in his stead urged the YR's to get behind Congressman Wayne Gilchrest in his re-election campaign. Leopold has endorsed Gilchrest, which is fine. However, what the state party apparatus is not supposed to do is take sides in contested primary elections. The staffer knows this because he fought against the issue when the state party tried to change the rules and allow for that to happen. And we've dealt with this issue before...
- There was a program for the event. Apparently spellcheck was broken.
- I saw State Party Executive Director John Flynn and he was wearing a New York Yankees wristwatch. Tsk tsk tsk.

How many people were there?
Was the "staffer" Robbey?
No need to hide the ball on that issue.
It's no secret that I want to see Gilchrest defeated. In turn, it's safe to say Leopold isn't one of my favorite characters. Still, how come no one is saying a word about elected officials who have already sided with Andy Harris?
That's because everyone on these blogs supports Harris.
So, let me get this straight, if the blogesphere gives their blessing, then it's fine to support a candidate in the primary? I don't find any issue with bloggers like Brian endorsing Harris. I just find it odd that those criticizing elected officials for endorsements of Gilchrest also find it completely appropriate for others to publicly back Harris.
Right, and if the state party or the AA county young republican chair works for Harris, you probably won't hear any objections from the blogosphere, either.
That's because Gilchrest isn't a "real Republican" in the eyes of those in this sphere.
