And that's the end of John Leopold's gubernatorial campaign
Anne Arundel County Executive John Leopold is at the center of what will surely rank as one of the stranger political stories of 2009. The Sun's Julie Scharper reports in Wednesday's paper that Arundel police plan to release a 911 tape in which a caller complains of seeing someone engaging in sexual acts in a car outside of a county mall. Police responded to the scene and found the black Chevy in question, which, it turned out, was Leopold's county car.
A Leopold spokesman says police found the complaint to be unwarranted, and no charges were filed.
Leopold was in the car, but no word on whether anybody else was there, or what he was doing hanging out in the parking lot. Rumors about the 911 call have been spreading like wildfire in the state's political community, so this surely won't be the last we hear of it. Check back for updates as we get them.
Now that the papers have this story, I wonder if they will start digging a little deeper into Leopold's background on this......

Brian,
I honestly had a little more respect for your "blogging" before viewing your posts concerning the crazy and unfounded accusations against one of the best Republican politicians that Maryland has seen for ages. Way to be a true promoter of the GOP!
The problem with this country's media is that it tends to be focused around breaking individuals down. Role models manage to be high targets. Ironically enough, the media does tend to be wrong a lot more than we realize. Some suggest this is an element owed to sensationalism. Either way, the malicious behavior does not actually broadcast the news, but possess hidden agendas behind actions.
I find it rather comical that the police did not file a report and there is no formal investigation going on at this time. The comedy being: THERE IS NO STORY, YET PEOPLE HAPPEN TO THINK THERE IS!
Brian, it appears you are in sync with the troubled Baltimore Sun and Capital. It appears that this grouping is more concerned about gaining attention rather than using better judgment before publicly releasing statements. Perhaps this lack of reasoning is why you have very few comments attached to your posts. So much for being the "most influential".
Maybe you should learn from Leopold. "No comment" is sometimes the best way to not say something stupid.
Your premise assumes the following:
- That I am in the business of defending Republicans right or wrong; I'm not, particularly when you have people embarrassing the party.
- The John Leopold is a Republican. Look at the record, he's not.
- That there is no story here....which there is.
- That everybody in Annapolis knew this days before it broke in the paper....which they did.
The best way to say something stupid, honestly, is to defend a slimy politician who has done nothing good for his party or his constituents in his 40 year political career. And trust me, there is more to this story than meets the eye...
