The New Battleline

The Supreme Court ruled today that the federal government can prosecute individuals on drug charges, even if the individual has a prescription in a state where medicinal marijuana is (ostensibly) legal.

Will medicial marijuana be the new battleline in politics at the federal level? Medicinal marijuana programs have become popular as a medical treatment in western states, partiuclarly California and Oregon. Even in Maryland, we saw a nod to legalized medicinal marijuana with a bill signed by Governor Ehrlich in 2003 that made the crime punishable only by a $100 fine.

This is could be the new battleline. It will be interesting to see where it goes from here.
