Have We Lost Our Minds?

I ask that question about our country, because the free preview of this article fromThe New Republic reads as follows"
Barack Obama's revelation that he is thinking about a 2008 run for president set off a predictable flurry of prognostications this week. Politics-watchers have speculated about how the electorate would react to everything from his youth to his pigmentation to his acknowledgment that he had messed around with marijuana and "maybe a little blow." But a far more interesting, if less legally dicey, bullet point was buried in a few of the recent stories about the Illinois senator's ambitions: Obama is a cigarette smoker....
That's right; writer Michale Currier Schaffer does not think Obama is in trouble because of his use of weed or cocaine, but of cigarettes. Is that actually a possibility?

I guess that being a smoke really is worse than being a drug user these days. If Republicans can actually try and push for smoking bans without fears of political repercussions from their base, I suppose smoking may really be the bigger sin. And that's pathetic...
