"They're Trying to Nickel and Dime us to F***ing Death"

The above is a comment a friend made about HB448, which will drastically expand the amount of taxable items under taxable under the sales and use tax. We talked about it back in February and I still suggest you take a listen to Greg Kline's enlightened discussion on the issue on the Conservative Refuge Podcast # 13.

And it is clearly legislative Democrats who are the "they" in the title comment. It's almost as if the Democrats are trying to push the middle class to leave for the more justly taxed Pennsylvania, West Virgina, and Delaware pastures...

"Enlightened", thanks. Sadly, the Dems are just getting warmed up (Hear that Bud!)

I don't want to hear you complain about taxes, Greg. You voted for someone who consistently voted for tax increases during his legislative career. You even admit you'll continue to vote for him no matter how much he raises taxes. Clearly, taxes aren't that big of an issue to you. Personally, I despise tax increases. When it comes to that issue, no one gets a free pass from me.

In this particular bill, look at where the sponsors are from. Three represent the People's Republic of Montgomery County and the other hails from PG County. Outside of those localities (and Baltimore City), there are many democrats that feel the same as I do about taxes. I noticed one of the democratic sponsors was named Gilchrest. How appropriate that the tax happy congressman has namesake in the tax capital of this state.

If you are going to rail against tax increases, you have to be consistent. Issuing free passes bases on party affiliation will weaken your argument.

Bud

Only you could listen to everything I have said about taxes and say that I am giving Leopold a free pass.

You have done nothing to convince me that the alternative is better. If you listen to what I have said you know I have railed against county Republicans trying to raise taxes and expressly mentioned the political pitfalls of doing so.

The difference is I don't sit in a corner and just whine saying everyone's bad. I am engaged in the process trying to make it better which includes first and foremost working to make the Republican party locally the champion of lower taxes specifically and conservatism generally.

Keep listening a little closer, my friend.

Greg,

First of all, we can't judge the alternative since he wasn't elected. He can only judge him on fiscal matters as it pertained to his job as sheriff. Overall, he did very well in this arena. Talking to George Johnson, I found him to be a conservative democrat. Such democrats do exist if you just open your eyes. Either way, I knew Leopold was too liberal for my liking.

Secondly, your assertion that I sit in the corner and just whine couldn't be further from the truth. I am a lot more active than you may think. Unlike yourself however, I would not work to better a particular political party. I choose my candidates without regard to party affiliation.

Finally, I am a conservative. Just because I support some democrats doesn't change that underlying fact. You should come over to the Baltimore Sun's talk site sometime. You'd get laughed out of the room if you accused me of being a pawn of the left.

Nothing personal on my part and I don't take it personally. I enjoy the discussion.

Dave you can save the "lemonade". Knowing your favorite drink it will be too salty (albeit with high quality salt).
