Volunteers Needed?
To date, as far as I am aware of there are no Republican candidates for Congress in the 2nd, 3rd, 5th and 7th districts. (When I say that the Anne Arundel Central Committee had better things to do, this is the kinda thing I meant).
The most problematic of these are the 2nd and the 3rd, where the districts are reasonably competitive under the right set of circumstances, i.e. we have a good candidate who is willing to put the time, effort, and shoe leather into running a good race.
So, I ask this question: what Republicans should take this "free shot" opportunity to run for Congress next year? And do you think that we are again going to wind up, particularly in the 2nd District, with another list of candidates that even die-hard Republicans can't recognize?

Brian, Dutch is a hard target to take out. It does not seem likely that he will be eliminated. Sucks, but it's the truth. The third may be viable (1st re-election is second most vulnerable period in congressional political history), but we'd need a Jewish Republican with strong donor-ties. 5th and 7th... why bother right now? If we target a race, it should be the third and it should be a direct hit on his ineffectiveness, even as a Sarbanes. What we should also be doing is looking at redistricting. BRAC along with all those illegals should give us a slight population edge to possible request a 9th congressman by 2012. We'd need a population of about 6.1-6.2 million, but it's possible. That 9th seat could go GOP if re-districting goes alright because of the BRAC jobs being largely Republican (see Ft. Monmouth registration #s).
There were two prospective candidates in District 7 who showed up and expressed interest at a HoCoGOP Central Committee meeting a month ago and I know of a third who is thinking of running, but none have officially taken the next step.
Agree, agree, agree. Especially the third is competitive, but it would be nice to have a reasonably qualified candidate in the 2nd as well. We should target Sarbanes. The campaign would have to be focused strictly on fundraising to have the money to compete.
